Customer Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Application For A Rate Increase In Pasco County By Labrador Utilities, Inc.

TALLAHASSEE — The staff of the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC or Commission) will conduct a customer meeting on Tuesday, August 24, 2004, to accept comments from consumers and other interested parties about a proposed rate increase submitted by Labrador Utilities, Inc. (Labrador or utility).  In addition, this meeting will provide those in attendance with an opportunity to comment about service quality issues and other matters relevant to Labrador.

Labrador is a water and wastewater utility located one mile east of the City of Zephyrhills in Pasco County.  This utility provides service to approximately 894 lots in Forest Lake Estates Mobile Home Park and the Forest Lake R.V. Resort.

The utility’s residential rates prior to its application were monthly flat rates of $4.50 for water and $10.50 for wastewater.  On February 24, 2004, the Commission approved interim monthly flat rates of $16.33 for water and $22.79 for wastewater.  In its permanent rate request, Labrador seeks consumption-based rates of $26.70 (water) and $53.90 (wastewater) for residential customers that use an average of 5,000 gallons per month.  The utility’s requested rates are provided only for discussion purposes.  Ultimately, the Commission-approved rates will be based on staff’s investigation and information obtained during the customer meeting.

All customers of Labrador are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at the following time and location:

Tuesday, August 24, 2004
6:00
p.m.
Forest Lake Estates Community Clubhouse
6429 Forest Lake Drive
Zephyrhills, Florida

PSC staff is currently scheduled to file a recommendation to the Commission concerning this proposed rate increase on November 18, 2004.  The Commission is currently scheduled to consider the staff’s recommendation and vote on this matter on November 30, 2004.
