Hearing Set for FPL Pipeline Proposal

TALLAHASSEE — Florida's Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a determination of need hearing beginning Monday, July 27, 2009, to consider Florida Power & Light’s (FPL) proposal to construct a 280-mile natural gas pipeline (Florida EnergySecure Line) from Bradford County to near Indiantown in Martin County.

If FPL’s Florida EnergySecure Line is approved, the new pipeline would be in service by January 2014.  The pipeline would add a third natural gas supply pipeline in the state.

At the hearing, all parties will have the opportunity to present testimony and other evidence concerning the proposed pipeline.  The hearing is set for the following time and location:

Monday, July 27 – Tuesday, July 28, 2009
9:30 a.m.

Betty Easley Conference Center
Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148)
4075 Esplanade Way
Tallahassee, Florida

Environmental impacts and other issues related to the proposed pipeline will be considered by other agencies.

FPL currently serves approximately 4.5 million customers throughout 35 Florida counties.

The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida's consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
