Fuel Adjustments Set For Electric Utilities

TALLAHASSEE — Annual fuel adjustment charges approved by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) and their impact on residential customers of investor-owned utilities are listed below.

These adjustments reflect fluctuations in the price paid by utilities for fuel and will become effective during the January 2006 billing cycle.  The Commission allows utilities to recover fuel-related costs that are prudently incurred.  The following monthly amounts are based on 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of use have been verified by PSC staff:

  • Residential customers of Florida Power & Light Company will pay $108.61 for 1,000 kWh of electricity.  This reflects an increase of $16.99 when compared with the current amount of $91.62.
  • A residential customer of Progress Energy Florida will pay $109.56 for 1,000 kWh of electricity, which is $11.78 more than the current level of $97.78.
  • Residential customers of Tampa Electric Company will pay $109.60 for 1,000 kWh of electricity.  This reflects a increase of $11.53 when compared with the current amount of $98.07.
  • A residential customer of Gulf Power Company will pay $92.48 for 1,000 kWh of electricity, which is $4.57 more than the current level of $87.91.
  • Calculations for Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC) are not available at this time and will be verified Thursday.
