Tampa’s SkyPoint Condominiums, recognized for its beautiful architecture as sculpture, is receiving the Florida Public Service Commission’s (PSC) August Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Efforts.
“Not only is SkyPoint ‘cool, clean, and contemporary,’ it is conservation conscious, too, which we appreciate and want to recognize,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “By simply updating its lighting, SkyPoint projects annual kWh savings of 441,924 that will reduce electric costs by more than $48,600 a year -- a benefit for both SkyPoint and its tenants.”
“We’re honored to receive this award. We pride ourselves on providing a perfect indoor and outdoor environment, and energy efficiency is important in this effort,” said Scott Bole, SkyPoint Property Manager. “We’re also working to become LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Existing Building certified, and Tampa Electric Company is helping us implement some additional efficiency measures.”
Skypoint participated in Tampa Electric’s Commercial Non-Conditioned Space Lighting Rebate Program by installing new lighting in the parking garage, building exterior and loading dock. The new energy-efficient lights reduced the building’s greenhouse gas emissions by 269.6 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), 875.0 pounds of nitrogen oxide, and 1405.3 pounds of sulfur oxide. According to an Environmental Protection Agency calculator, the CO2 savings alone are equivalent to removing nearly 57 passenger cars from the road for one year.
“I’m glad to see one of our downtown Tampa neighbors taking advantage of Tampa Electric’s energy-efficiency programs that help the environment—and help save energy costs,” said Gordon Gillette, president of Tampa Electric. “Our customers are seeing real results through our energy-efficiency programs and rebates.”
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for past PSC Triple E Award recipients under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, www.floridapsc.com. The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
