PSC Chairman Art Graham Scores with Consumer Protection

“No football player would ever take the game field without his uniform and protective gear, such as a helmet, shoulder pads, special shoes, and other padding to protect knees, shoulders, collarbones, etc.,” said Chairman Graham. “Consumers, too, should ‘suit up’ with education and information to recognize fraud and protect identity, bank and billing accounts, and property.”

Complementing Chairman Graham’s NCPW message, the PSC will distribute information about scams aimed at utility customers and how to better protect themselves at several consumer events during the week. Here are Chairman Graham’s ideas for the “equipment” consumers need to defeat scammers:

Block Cyber Attacks
Consumers should learn to block scammers. Delete e-mails from utilities/companies if you’re not a customer, and don’t open any links contained in the message.

Head Off Fraud
Consumers should think safety first! Do not give in to high pressure tactics to provide information over the phone or in person.

Be Quick on Your Feet
Consumers should stay nimble on their feet to implement new ways to conserve energy and save money. 

Study the Playbook
Like a player’s playbook, education makes better consumers.
