The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today approved reduced fuel charges for Gulf Power Company (Gulf). Gulf residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours will see a $9.92 decrease in their total monthly bill, from $126.53 to $116.61, effective July 2.
“Gulf has diversified its fuel sources to mitigate the impact of fluctuating fuel costs,” said Chairman Ronald A. Brisé. “Our Commission’s authority to adjust rates to reflect fuel cost savings protects customers, especially heading into the summer months when electricity use often increases to keep homes cool.”
The PSC usually reviews and determines fuel charges annually in November to reflect changing fuel costs. Gulf requested this mid-course adjustment due to lower fuel prices. Florida’s investor-owned utilities are not allowed to earn a profit on the cost of fuel to generate electricity.
Gulf will notify its more than 431,000 customers in eight Northwest Florida counties through a July bill insert.
