Tallahassee Housing Authority Recognized as "PSC Helping Hand" for September

TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) today recognized the Tallahassee Housing Authority (THA) for being a PSC Helping Hand.  Partnerships are essential to raise public awareness, and the Commission appreciates THA’s assistance in sharing information on Lifeline Assistance (Lifeline), a telephone discount program, with its residents.

“THA offers an invaluable service to Big Bend area low-income families by providing affordable housing and safe neighborhoods,” said PSC Chairman Ronald A. Brisé.  “Earlier this month THA hosted the Commission’s Lifeline Awareness Week kickoff that helped qualified residents in three THA neighborhoods benefit from discounted monthly telephone bills.”

“Because of our continuing cooperative partnership, I am pleased to name THA and its Executive Director, Brenda Williams, as the PSC Helping Hand for September,” Chairman Brisé added.

During two PSC workshops held last year with state agencies and social service representatives from across Florida, the Commission helped organizations connect to share resources and more effectively serve their clientele.  To continue the workshops’ success and recognize positive working relationships, each month this year the PSC is acknowledging a partner--a PSC Helping Hand--who has assisted the Commission’s outreach efforts.

“We are honored to be recognized as a PSC Helping Hand,” said Ms. Williams.  “Because THA residents qualify for Lifeline, it’s important to make sure they are aware of the program.  We appreciate the PSC’s outreach information not only for Lifeline, but also for energy and water conservation, since THA residents can benefit from these money-saving practices.”
THA’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing decent, safe, and sanitary housing for qualified low-income individuals and families, and encouraging an educational atmosphere that promotes upward mobility in work and social settings.
