Florida PSC Selects Singleton Center as January PSC Helping Hand

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is extending its Helping Hands program in 2014, recognizing agencies and organizations that have helped raise public awareness of the Lifeline Assistance (Lifeline) telephone discount program and of the importance of energy and water conservation.  The Mary Singleton Senior Center in Jacksonville is January’s PSC Helping Hand.

“An old proverb suggests that ‘many hands make light work,’” said PSC Chairman Art Graham.  “Our Helping Hand program embodies this collaborative spirit since so many ‘hands’ help us raise consumer awareness about Lifeline and conservation practices to lower utility bills.”

“I’m pleased that we are continuing to highlight our important partnerships by recognizing a Helping Hand each month in 2014,” he added. “Our congratulations to Jeannie Baldwin, Community Senior Activities Coordinator at the Mary Singleton Senior Center, who has hosted numerous community meetings for us to meet her clients and assist them with their utility needs.”

“We are honored to be recognized as a PSC Helping Hand and proud to partner with the PSC to assist Florida’s seniors with their utilities and other essential services,” said Ms. Baldwin. “We are especially excited to begin this new year by continuing our partnership with the PSC and assisting our seniors in Chairman Graham’s hometown.”

Each month this year the Commission will recognize an outreach partner as a PSC Helping Hand.  Last year’s Helping Hands can be found under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage,
