Great Dane’s Tampa Branch Receives PSC’s Triple E Award

TALLAHASSEE — “Let’s Go” is the moto of Great Dane, a commercial transportation equipment manufacturer with a dealer in Tampa. Great Dane’s “Let’s Go” attitude not only helps transportation companies deliver goods efficiently, it also drove its Tampa dealer to install energy efficient lighting. To recognize the cost-saving move, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) presented its April Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort to Tampa’s Great Dane.

“Energy is one of the most expensive factors in the manufacturing process,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown.  “We are proud of Great Dane for reducing its energy costs and realizing cost savings that help keep its business competitive, while providing customers with the best return on their investment.”

“Great Dane’s pledge is to keep its environmental impact as low as possible, and energy-efficient lighting is one of our company’s green initiatives,” said Mike Holliday, service manager.  “By participating in Tampa Electric’s lighting program, we are saving 18 percent on our energy costs – nearly $3,000 a year – while reducing our carbon footprint and cutting operational costs.”

“Many of our energy-efficiency programs not only help save our customers money but also are benefitting our environment,” said Gordon Gillette, president of Tampa Electric. “Through smart energy use and adjustments to areas like lighting, our customers are seeing real results.”

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency.  Look for past PSC Triple E Award recipients under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
