MainStay Suites Receives PSC’s Triple E Award

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission has awarded its Triple E Awardfor Energy Efficiency Effortsto Pensacola’s MainStay Suites for completing major efficiency upgrades throughout its complex.

“It is rewarding to recognize a business that has reduced its energy footprint and improved its customer experience,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown.  “As a result of new energy efficiencies, MainStay Suites is saving about $700 per month.”

“In the ultra-competitive hotel market, controlling costs are imperative for success,” said Ajit Patel, hotel owner. “With Gulf Power Company’s help, we reduced operating costs with upgrades that also enhance our lighting, temperature, and pool maintenance for our customers. We are very pleased to be recognized by the PSC for our efforts.”

MainStay’s new efficiency features include: 68 tons of 15 SEER split-system heat pumps, an LED lighting retrofit and room occupancy sensors, ceiling insulation upgrades, a Low-e window retrofit, and Wi-Fi enabled programmable thermostats controlled by the front desk personnel when a room is unoccupied. An additional efficiency upgrade included the replacement of three constant speed pool pumps with high-efficiency, variable-speed pool pumps.

“Partnering with MainStay was a natural fit because of their interest and focus on energy efficiency,” said Natalie Smith, spokesperson for Gulf Power. “Their investments in energy efficiencies will mean savings for years to come.”

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency.  Look for past PSC Triple E Award recipients under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
