Palm Beach County’s North County Senior Center Named May PSC Helping Hand

TALLAHASSEE — During Older Americans Month 2014, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing the North County Senior Center in Palm Beach Gardens as a PSC Helping Hand. Helping raise public awareness about the Lifeline Assistance program and energy and water conservation, the center is a valuable PSC partner and senior advocate.

“The North County Senior Center, managed by Hugo Montenegro, is a supportive partner in helping us teach seniors about programs and strategies that can lower their utility bills,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “I want to thank the center—especially during May’s Older Americans Month—for consistently hosting community meetings where senior residents can learn and benefit from the PSC’s important consumer messages.”

Begun last year, each month the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline Assistance (Lifeline) telephone discount program and/or need help to reduce energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hands partnerships, the Commission shares vital information that helps consumers stretch their pocketbooks and meet their monthly bills.

“We enjoy working with the PSC and are honored to be named a Helping Hand,” said Montenegro. “We strive to provide quality programs and services to seniors in our community, that include utility assistance and ways to save on utility bills. Our seniors really appreciate information on Lifeline, and we understand the importance of every senior having the ability to afford home telephone service.”

The Palm Beach County North County Senior Center’s mission is to serve as a neighborhood focal point where residents, aged 60 and older, can come together for services and activities that enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their community involvement.
