Florida’s Division of Library and Information Services Named PSC Helping Hand

TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing the Florida Department of State’s Library and Information Services Division as a PSC Helping Hand for helping raise public awareness about the Lifeline Assistance telephone discount program and energy and water conservation.

“For residents in need, public libraries provide information to help consumers understand how government works so they can make informed decisions,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “I want to commend Judith Ring, Director, and Katrice Stewart for their assistance in helping us educate consumers on programs that can impact their budgets and make a difference in their overall quality of life.”

Begun last year, each month the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline program and/or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares vital information to help consumers stretch their resources to meet their monthly bills.

“We are pleased to be named a PSC Helping Hand,” said Ring. “Each year the PSC provides educational brochures to Florida’s public libraries for our patrons. We appreciate the partnership because the conservation brochures and Lifeline materials are essential to families needing discounted phone service and ways to trim monthly utility bills.”
