April 18 is National Lineman Appreciation Day. The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) recognizes and honors the country’s dedicated lineworkers for ensuring that power flows to homes and businesses across America.
“Linemen work around the clock in all kinds of weather, interacting with thousands of volts of electricity, to maintain, restore or repair our vital electric service,” said PSC Chairman Gary Clark. “While a lot of people take cover when severe weather strikes, these unsung heroes are first responders when there’s a power emergency.”
Lineworkers are responsible for constructing, operating, and maintaining equipment and power lines in utilities’ service territories. Often faced with working in extreme circumstances, lineworkers are trained to work efficiently and learn the latest technologies to quickly restore power after a storm and keep the nation’s electricity flowing.
When you see lineworkers, remember to give a “thumbs up” or a “wave” as a hearty thank you for their important work.
