WestCMR Recognized with PSC’s Triple E Award

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) this month is awarding its Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort—to Clearwater’s WestCMR, a local company that acquires surplus medical inventory and resells it to hospitals and surgery centers. The company recently expanded its operations facility by adding an 11,350 square foot energy efficient addition to the building, demonstrating “E” for effort by incorporating efficiencies that render energy and cost savings.

“The Commission is pleased to recognize WestCMR for implementing PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “We applaud the leadership of Randy Ware, company founder and CEO, who not only spurred an innovative way to prevent viable surgical supplies from filling landfills, but also helped achieve his organization’s energy-efficiency goal. We hope other small businesses will follow suit, working with their local utility to help reduce their energy footprint.”

“We’re innovative in putting  money back into healthcare facilities, and we want to be just as creative in practicing energy efficiency in our facility,” Ware said. “We worked closely with Duke Energy to install efficient LED lighting, R-30 Roof Deck Insulation, small heat pumps, demand control ventilation, and a Cool Roof. I’m honored to accept this award and appreciate Duke Energy’s assistance in helping us save an estimated 27,198 kWh annually.”

“WestCMR went ‘all in’ to build the most efficient facility it could,” said Randy Carver, Commercial Assessor, Duke Energy Florida. “By improving the energy efficiency of our business customers’ facilities, we can help companies offset up-front costs, reduce payback time, and accelerate energy savings, which helps them and their communities.”

The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC gives its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2014 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage,
