TALLAHASSEE —
Florida’s electric utilities, Public Service Commission (PSC) staff, and other
interested parties will meet on May 19 to discuss strengthening of overhead
electric lines and underground placement of electric lines through potential
rule amendment.
In February, the Commission directed its staff to explore construction
standards for a more resilient electric infrastructure and to analyze the cost
and reliability of placing electric lines underground. This Friday’s workshop
is part of an ongoing effort by the PSC to address the design and construction of electric
facilities to minimize storm damage and resulting outages.
The PSC has proposed amending its rules to address the
construction of new underground facilities, the conversion of existing overhead
electrical lines to underground, and more stringent construction standards for
overhead electrical lines to withstand extreme weather events.
The workshop will be held at the following time and location:
Friday, May 19, 2006
9:30 a.m.
Room 148, Betty Easley Conference Center
4075 Esplanade Way
Tallahassee, Florida
