Living Well Lodges Named PSC’s June Triple E Winner

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is awarding its June Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort—to Living Well Lodges (LWL) assisted living facilities in Central Florida. LWL leaders have demonstrated “E” for effort by implementing energy efficient measures on its properties to save energy and reduce costs.

“We are pleased to recognize Living Well Lodges and Managing Partner Tom Hofmeister for implementing PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “In constructing their facilities, LWL installed every possible lighting and insulation upgrade to ensure energy efficiency and also used hi-tech Packaged Terminal Heat pumps and efficient unitary HVAC systems. We hope other developers and small businesses will follow suit, working with their local utility to help reduce their energy footprint.”

“Our mantra is to ‘come and flourish,’ which is what we are doing both economically and environmentally within our community,” said Hofmeister. “We’ve also worked hard to promulgate our message of ‘elders changing the world,’ so it follows naturally that we’d be leaders in today’s state-of-the-art energy efficiency. We’re happy to receive this award and appreciate Duke Energy Florida Inc.’s (DEF) assistance in helping LWL save more than 360,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually.”

“DEF’s Commercial Energy Efficiency New Construction Program has helped numerous small businesses, such as LWL, save energy and cut costs,” said Jerry Miller, DEF Community and Government Relations Manager. “We understand that controlling expenses, particularly in LWL’s Osprey and Crane’s View Lodges, is important to hold down costs for residents of the assisted living facilities, and we’re proud of Mr. Hofmeister’s firm commitment to seek improvements.”

The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC gives its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2015 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage,
