PSC Directs Improved Service Quality for Cedar Acres, Inc.

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today listened to Cedar Acres, Inc. utility customers’ concerns about inaccurate and nonworking meters during deliberations on the utility’s rate request. In a unanimous vote, the Commissioners took exception to director’s fees and utility staff salaries, and demanded utility compliance reports to correct serious operational and service quality problems.

The PSC also ordered its staff to audit the utility’s billing and management practices and report back on its findings simultaneously with the required compliance reports in six months and then again in another six months to ensure the utility is fulfilling the PSC’s order. The Commission’s adjustments to salaries and director’s fees will free up funds to be used for meter replacement.

“We listened to the customers and sent a message to the utility’s management to clean up their operations and provide quality service to their customers,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “We diverted some salary monies into the meter replacement program so aging water meters can be replaced and repeated billing errors corrected for the customers’ benefit.”

Cedar Acres is a water utility serving approximately 319 customers in the Oakland Hills subdivision in Sumter County.
