TALLAHASSEE —
The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a service hearing Wednesday on a Progress Energy Florida proposal to construct two nuclear-fueled generating units at a new energy complex in Levy County, Florida. The new complex will be located about 10 miles north of the company’s Crystal River Energy Complex and eight miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico on Florida’s west coast.
The service hearing provides an opportunity for the public to present evidence and testimony concerning the need for the proposed generating additions. As part of the need determination process, the PSC must consider the need for electric system reliability and integrity, adequate electricity at a reasonable cost, and fuel diversity and supply reliability.
All members of the public who wish to make a statement should be present at the beginning of the hearing set for the following time and location:

The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
