TALLAHASSEE —
The members and staff of the Florida Public Service Commission will
conduct a customer service hearing in Daytona Beach Monday April 11, 2005, to provide consumers an opportunity to comment on a request by Florida Power &
Light, Inc. (FP&L) to recover costs associated with the 2004 hurricane season.
The company is seeking permission to recover $533 million from its 4.2
million Florida customers. According to company's estimates, total
damage from hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne was $998 million. Insurance
reimbursements totaling $108 million are deducted from the total as is $354
million that was held in a special reserve fund specifically to repair
storm-related damages. The $533 million balance is the amount the
utility seeks to recover.
