The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a need determination hearing on Wednesday, December 12, to consider Tampa Electric Company’s (TECO) petition to add waste heat recovery systems to four existing combustion turbine generating units known as Polk 2-5.
TECO proposes to convert the units to a natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) facility at its Polk Power Station, a 2,800-acre site located in Polk County, currently home to its Polk Unit 1. Polk 2-5 is expected to generate 1,195 megawatts (MW) of electricity in winter and 1,063 MW in the summer.
The hearing provides an opportunity for the public to comment and for the utility and other interested parties to present evidence and testimony concerning the need for the proposed modernization.
The hearing is scheduled for the following time and location:
Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Betty Easley Conference Center
Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148)
4075 Esplanade Way
